It’s Galentine’s Day and also there is a trending topic on Twitter that matches quite well. SO!

Thank you Amma for being an awesome feminist by going to med school and becoming a surgeon in a patriarchal society, moving to another country then re-qualifying to be a doctor because you were an immigrant and doing it all over again even though you had two kids, and for supporting women and girls like a boss through your doctor-work as well as your volunteering. Oh yeah and for raising me to be a feminist too.

Thank you Jessica Valenti for everything I don’t even know where to start and if I do I might not be able to finish so Imma just leave it at that.

Thank you bell hooks for giving me the words and the knowledge to talk about intersectionality without yelling and punching people in the face.

Thank you Joanne Rowling for Hermione Granger.

Thank you Laura Mills for being outstanding and also there for me at every stumble I have had in my formative-last-11-years and for giving me Hillary Clinton’s biog which basically is the whole reason I stuck with that lawyering thing.

Thank you Karen Pickering for your neverending tirelessness in the face of neverending fuckwittery and showing me that ragey-mc-rage-rage can work when tempered with compassion and grace. 

Thank you Emma Pocock for sharing your resources, wit, and intelligence with us, and for giving me hope that a feminist marriage with solidarity for the same-sex cause is a thing that can actually be a real thing.

Thank you Rebecca Shaw for making me snort with laughter on a daily basis and proving that feminists are hilarious plus also for Leslie Knope.

Thank you Elena Jeffries for your work with Scarlett Alliance. You are kick-butt great.

Thank you Chloe Papas for mixing thought-provokingness with hilarity and also for NO STARS EVER becuase obvs that’s the best catchprase ever. 

Thank you Trisha Jha for helping me think outside the box and consider other perspectives.

Thank you Kate Haycock for giving me the chance to cuddle Imogen so much and letting me have the precious opportunity to see what being a mother means. I discovered my respect for my own mum through no small part of being your friend — as a kid I had NFI what she did for me (I still don’t get how she did it) and I am grateful that I am finally able to understand this.

Oooookaaaaaayyyyyyyy…. there are heaps more and I just realised the futility in this because I am going to fail to include everyone but I’ll just have to do this all over again next year with new feminists who make my life awesome because there are so many of them and maybe Galentine’s Day should be every year so that it doesn’t take me a three hundred million years to finish the list.
